Preparing your furniture properly before moving day protects your belongings, speeds up loading and keeps the hourly cost of your move down. Here is what to do with the most common items.
Beds and tables
Strip beds the night before, keep the bolts and screws in a labelled zip-lock bag and tape it to the frame. Our movers can dismantle and reassemble standard beds and tables, but having bedding off and drawers empty saves time.
Wardrobes, dressers and drawers
- Remove fragile, heavy and valuable items
- Light clothing can usually stay in drawers
- Empty wardrobes with hanging rails, or use wardrobe boxes
- Take out loose shelves and glass panels and wrap them separately
Fridges, freezers and washing machines
Turn the fridge and freezer off and defrost them about 24 hours before the move, then dry them out so water does not leak in the truck. Disconnect and drain the washing machine and, if you still have them, fit the transit bolts. We move appliances, but we do not do plumbing, gas or electrical work.
Couches and mattresses
Remove loose cushions and bag them, and measure doorways at the new home for large or modular lounges. Mattress covers keep mattresses clean and dry – we can supply them with our packing service.
Leave the heavy lifting to us
Our furniture removalists wrap every piece in padded blankets, strap it in the truck and carry it safely through stairs and tight hallways. Call 0410 000 256 or get a free quote.
